Patch/Hotfix Epic Fail

You installed a new QuickTest Pro patch or hotfix thinking it was going to solve all your problems. Crash! What do you do when installing a patch or hotfix actually makes things worst? Luckily, there's no need to do a complete un-install of QTP and start from scratch. Follow these steps, and have QTP rolled back faster than green grass through a goose.

To Uninstall a QuickTest Professional Patch or Hotfix

The following steps should uninstall unwanted QTP patches/hotfixes:

For Windows XP

  1. Open up the Control Panel
  2. Click on Add or Remove Programs

  3. In the ‘Add a Remove Programs' window click on the ‘Change or Remove Programs' option and make sure you click on the ‘Show updates' checkbox:

  4. After clicking on the Show updates you should now see all the patches and hotfixes listed under QTP. Find the patch/hotfix you want to uninstall and click on its ‘Remove' button.
  5. That's it – QTP should no longer have the removed patch/hotfix

For Windows 7

  1. Open up the Control Panel
  2. Under the Control Panel click on the Programs/Uninstall a Program link
  3. In the Programs and Features screen click on the ‘View installed updates' link

  4. From the ‘Installed Updates' screen find the HP QuickTest Professional section and right click on the patch/hotfix that you want to uninstall

Don't believe me?

If your paranoid like I am, or have an obsessive compulsive disorder and need to triple check that patch/hotfix is no longer installed you can do the following:

  1. In QTP click on Help/About QuickTest Professional
  2. On the ‘About QuickTest Professional Screen click on the ‘Click to generate product information' button

  3. A QTP info page should appear. Scroll to the bottom of the report and you will see a section that list all the Patches/Hotfixes that you currently have installed
