HP Unified Functional Testing 11.5 Web Services Add-in

If you installed UFT 11.50 you might now be wondering “Where is the Web Services Add-in”? HP has announced that the Web Service's add-in will no longer be supported in UFT. If you need to test web services using UFT 11.50 it is recommended that you use the UFT API testing features instead.

I for one don't mind this change since I always felt that the web services support in QTP was terrible anyway. I think UFT API is much better for testing web services and REST APIs. But if you do need the web add-in for your older QTP scripts there is a work around available.

What do you do if you need the Web Services Add-in for your older QTP tests?

UFT 11.5 Web Services Add-in

Just because the Web Services Add-in is no longer supported doesn't mean there is not a way to enable it in UFT 11.5. To do this you can make a change to your registry but remember that the Web Services Add-in is only supported for backward compatibility.

Registry setting to enable the Web Services Add-in in UFT

To enable the Web Services Add-in in UFT 11.5, make the following changes:

  • Verify that all instances of UFT 11.5 are closed
  • Go to your Start>Run and enter regedit
  • In the Registry Editor navigate to
    • For 32bit OS:
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\Add-in Manager\WebServices
    • For 64bit OS
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\Add-in Manager\WebServices
  • Find the entry “Not Available” and change the value from 1 to 0
  • Start up UFT 11.50 and you should now see the Web Services Add-in as an option in the Add-in Manager dialog

Speaking of registry entries, anyone know where the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\AdditionalPanes

equivalent is in 11.5?

Hi Joe

I was able to see the Web service add in once I did the steps mentioned by you. However I am not able to see the XML Warehouse tab in the Test Settings section.
Any idea how can I get that?

Thanks

    SOLUTION

    (x86) – 32 bit machine

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\MicTest\ReservedObjects\XMLWarehouse\ParamData]PropPageProgId = “Mercury.XMLRepositoryPropPage”
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\MicTest\ReservedObjects\XMLWarehouse\ParamData]PropPageProgId = “Mercury.XMLRepositoryPropPage”

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\Add-In Manager\WebServices]Not Available = 0
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\MicTest\Test Objects\WebService\Info]package = “WSPackage”

    (x64) (64 bit machine)

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\MicTest\ReservedObjects\XMLWarehouse\ParamData]PropPageProgId = “Mercury.XMLRepositoryPropPage”
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\MicTest\ReservedObjects\XMLWarehouse\ParamData]PropPageProgId = “Mercury.XMLRepositoryPropPage”
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\Add-In Manager\WebServices]Not Available = 0

I am also not able to see the XML Warehouse under test settings. In fact, I have an automated test that references XMLWarehouse and it will not run under UFT 11.52.

Hello Joe,
I am not able View/Edit xml structure in UFT by enabling webservice addin. I can do this in QTP 11 to set my request. Can you please throw your insights on how to use this in UFT.

Thanks.

Hi – i’m not sure. I know that the Web Services Add-in is supported for backward compatibility only and might be missing some functionality because HP really wants people to start merging their API testing to the new UFT API testing features for Web Services testing.
